Thanks to the panelists and to the members who attended the last meetup.

Here’s a quick rundown of the November panel …
Ankur, from Blumberg Capital, divided ecommerce into a set of stages:

1. Who are you really targeting (e.g. behavioral, vertical, etc)?

2. Once you identified your customer base, how do you drive them to your site?

3. Once you have people coming into your site, how do you deliver a personalized experience (e.g. recommendation engine)?  This stage is ripe for new innovation.  Vijay, from Mertado, suggested  innovations such as content-based commerce, app-based commerce, or the fusion of offline/online retail. Nov 9 – Slicing, Dicing, and Enticing E-Commerce Users

The stakes in E-Commerce have grown high for branded / non branded merchandise, virtual products / services, and payment methods, and consumers have many choices. To help consumers discover what they can spend money on, rate, share, and assimilate information, companies are inventing and implementing ever more enticing user interfaces, offers, social interactions, and packaging that mimic the old brick and mortar world yet reinvent it for online consumption. Once created, these can target the intended audience using a combination of product information, user “intent”, user “profile”, and historical observations. Continue reading
